Security Software Engineer

Overview: This is a general track for security-focused engineering roles at Canonical, applicable for engineers at all levels of seniority. Canonical offers opportunities for security specialists to enhance security practices across all product engineering teams. Responsibilities: - Define, implement, and document new security features - Lead security-oriented thinking within a product engineering team - Analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in Canonical and open source software - Audit and analyze source code for vulnerabilities - Integrate new tools into security infrastructure - Extend and enhance cryptographic components specific to compliance - Monitor the security industry for developments - Provide guidance and support to other engineering teams Qualifications: - Exceptional academic background in Computer Science or STEM - Experience with security vulnerabilities and modern engineering techniques - Proficient in languages such as C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, or PHP - Professional written and spoken English - Experience working with Linux (preferably Debian or Ubuntu) - Excellent interpersonal skills and self-motivation Preferred Skills: - Experience working with the Linux Kernel - Security Certification experience, especially in FIPS and/or CC - Knowledge of low-level Linux cryptography APIs What We Offer: - Competitive compensation based on experience and performance - Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 annually - Distributed work environment with opportunities for in-person sprints - Annual compensation review and recognition rewards - Maternity and paternity leave - Employee Assistance Programme and travel opportunities Equal Opportunity Commitment: Canonical fosters a diverse workplace and is committed to fair consideration for all applicants.
